• STILLWELL WOODS z - A stillwell woods. long island Just off the Hudson River in Westchester County, Blue Mountain Reservation welcomes mountain bikers with open arms. They even hand out maps at the park entrance. There are about 1 ,500 acres of off-road carriage trails and single track, as well as a roughly 500-vertical-foot climb from the base of the park to the top of Mount Spitzenburg. The riding can be easy or rigorous-depending on the color-coded route you take (red is for experts; isn't it always?). Blue Point can also be very rocky. Take care dur- ing descents and always be able to bail out in the face of obstacles, or other riders. To get there, take the Taconic north to Briarcliff Manor, get onto 9A north, which will eventually become Route 9 toward Peekskill. Make a right at Welcher Avenue just before town, and go straight to the park entrance. For more information, call ET Cycle Center in Croton at 914-271-6661. A killington mountain. vermont
