Reefs occupy less than 0.1 percent of the ocean surface area, but are home to an estimated 35 percent of all ocean I ife and more than 1 million species of plants and animals. Their density of life and unimaginable abundance has drawn divers for decades. But reefs are as vulnerable as they are beautiful, and pollution is one of the most insidious reef killers.
