The San Francisco Disc Golf Club, a nonprofit organ ization founded in 1997, brings together fun-minded folk and lobbys for permanent disc golf courses in the Bay Area. To further the aim , SFDGC encourages paid membership to its organization at $5 per person for a lifetime membership. HIKING AT BIG BASIN REDWOOD STATE PARK Big Basin's 18,000 acres was established in 1902 as California's first state park. You'll fi nd camping and over 80 miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking. The day use fee is $3 per car or $35 for an annual pass. Campsites can be reserved up to seven months in advance by calling 800-444-PARK or 800-874-TENT. Fall offers warm days and cold nights. Be prepared for occasional storms or ra in, with temperatu res ranging from 60 to 75 degrees daily and 30 to mid 50s at night. Note that due to overhanging trees and branches GPS units do not always work suc- cessfully. Carry a compass, adequate clot hing and a trail map available either from the park headquarters or from the Mountain Parks Foundation at 831-335-31 74. Skydive Monterey Bay in Mari na, less than an hour south of San Jose, offers tandem jumps, accelerated freefall and static line train ing as well as a scenic venue for experienced skydivers above beautifu l Monterey Bay. First time jumpers participate in a preparatory 20-minute class before being harnessed to a USPA certified tandem master. Jumps range from 11,000 to 18,000 feet, and have between 45 and 60 seconds of freefa ll. Tandem prices are $199. All equ ipment meets or surpasses Federal Aviation requirements and is packed by ce rtified parachute ri ggers. Safety is of paramount importance, and owners and AFF instructors Mike Eakins and Jess Rodriguez have over 12,000 jumps between them. GLIDING IN MIDDLETOWN Located in the foo th ills of the Mayacamus Mountains, in the Northern California Coastal Range, Crazy Creek Soaring offers both standard and aerobatic glider flights ranging from 15 to 40 minutes.
