work @ b I u e blue Media Ventures seeks qualified applicants for full-time positions in our New York office; relating to blue's publishing and emerging Internet business. Overlook Mountain, one of the highest, coldest and snowiest spots near Manhattan, is the back side of Hunter Mountain. Overlook offers ski ing and camp- ing terrain for every skill level. Tra ils on the northside are easier to ski up and down and are best for intermediates. Southern approaches are for more experienced skiers. If you get to the top, sneak a run down the front of the mountain (Hunter). But do this at the end of the day. Hunter offic ials don't appreciate unticketed skiers or boarders coming through the back door. To reach the southern trailhead, take 212 west from Woodstock, then turn right onto Town Route 33 just before the vi llage green. Route 33 turns into Mead's Mountain Road, and three miles Lip is a trailhead parking lot. A bulletin board there shows the Overlook Trai l, which is approximately 6.5 miles long. To approach the summit from the north, take Route 16 north towards Platte Clove until you come to Prediger Road on the right. An intermediate trail starts at the end of Prediger Road. Check in with the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Southern Regional Offices in New Paltz at 914-256-3076. For snow conditions at Hunter Mountain, call 518-263-4223. i ..... ~ .... From Bennington, take Route 9 east to Wilmington, then north on Route 100 to the town of West Wardsboro. Take Stratton Road west out of town to enter the Green Mountain National Forest. Down the road on the right, is the Stratton Pond Trailhead. Park here, and set out on the well-marked trail to the top of Stratton. It's about a six-mile hike to the 3,936-foot peak, the highest point in southern Vermont. The resort doesn't mind if intrepid winter campers ride or ski down their trails. For a US$12 snowshoeing fee, you can take the gondola up with all your camping gear and head into the backcountry from there.
