Dawn of the Disc A descendent of Frisbee football, Ultimate began in 1968 when some Maplewood, New Jersey, high school students started toss ing the disc and joking about forming a Frisbee team. They devised their own rules of play and the games attracted more players. The sport's young forefathers graduated and headed for
college, bringing their discs with them. The first intercollegiate Ultimate contest was held between Princeton and Rutgers in 1972.
